UHMW-PE - high-performance fiber composite for modern protection

Our protection systems are based on ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE) - a high-performance material that is characterized by extreme energy absorption, low weight and excellent environmental resistance. UHMW-PE is used wherever conventional materials such as aramid fiber composites or steel armouring reach their limits - for example in mobile applications, lightweight structures or structurally sensitive installation situations.

ADVANTAGES UHMW-PE

Advantages over aramid fiber composites (e.g. Kevlar®):

No water absorption

UHMW-PE is completely hydrophobic - in contrast to aramid, which absorbs moisture and can therefore lose strength over time. This makes our solutions performance-stable in the long term - even under extreme physical stress in vests, high humidity or outdoor storage.

Higher UV resistance

While aramid fibers age and become brittle due to UV radiation, UHMW-PE is significantly more resistant to sunlight and weathering.

More effective splinter protection

UHMW-PE absorbs kinetic energy efficiently through a combination of fiber stretching and thermoplastic deformation. The retention effect for splinters and fragments is excellent - even at low thicknesses.

Advantages over steel armor:

Massive weight saving

UHMW-PE weighs only around 1/7 as much as steel - with a comparable protective effect against certain threat scenarios. This means significantly lower system masses, simpler installation and lower requirements for load-bearing structures.

3D moldability

In contrast to rigid steel plates, UHMW-PE can be thermoplastically formed. This means that individual, curved components, enclosures and contour-accurate protection solutions can be realized - without complex welding or forming processes.

No corrosion, maintenance-free

UHMW-PE is naturally corrosion-free, non-conductive and highly resistant to chemicals - a clear advantage over untreated steel surfaces in harsh environments.
